The video shows members of Coast Guard Station Annapolis taking control of a runaway boat Thursday on the Severn River.

A Coast Guard spokesperson told the Capital Gazette that the boat’s operator had been ejected after a high-speed turn, leaving the boat at full throttle and moving around the water aimlessly. (RELATED: ‘Shadow Fleet’ Captain Admits To Fleeing Coast Guard In Weeks-Long Pursuit)

Although the boater had been picked up without injuries by his son, who had been driving nearby on a jet ski, they were unable to stop the boat as it continued moving about the water aimlessly.

The video, which has been shared on many social media channels, shows the red Coast Guard boat eventually catching up to the circling runaway vessel, ramming it alongside, and one of the guardsmen jumping aboard to take control of the boat and bring it to a halt.

The spokesperson said the Coast Guard first received a report of the incident at 9:05 a.m. and reportedly had the boat secured an hour later.

A boat was also dispatched from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, the spokesperson told the Capital Gazette.

One of the social media pages that shared the viral video, ExxAlerts, said the incident has raised awareness about the importance of boat operators wearing engine shut-off clip lanyards, which would have automatically cut the engine if the operator went overboard.

Many comments on this and other posts of the video compared the Coast Guard’s actions to something pulled straight out of a movie or seen at a rodeo. Others joked that the Coast Guard will see a boom in recruitment after people watch the video.

The Coast Guard did not respond to the Daily Caller’s request for comment.
