Video appearing to show a man brandishing a knife and threatening passengers on a Charolette Area Transit System (CATS) light rail train Sunday has sparked a police investigation.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) said the incident took place at approximately 10 p.m. June 7 and featured three people in a dispute, according to Queen City News. Footage appears to show a black man holding a knife while getting in an argument with two other people. The knife-wielding man allegedly makes several threats including “I’m gonna beat your a** on this G** d**m train,” and “I will kill you and eat you.” This incident occurred on the CATS Lynx Blue Line, WSOC-TV reportedIryna Zarutska was allegedly stabbed to death by Decarlos Brown Jr last August on the Lynx Blue Line, according to Fox News Digital.

The CMPD said the footage appears to have been filmed on a cellphone camera of another passenger, Queen City News reported. The man appears to be waving the knife around, at one point allegedly making a stabbing motion towards the man and woman opposite him. The footage appears to show the incident ending with the knife-wielding man getting off the train and sitting on a bench at the train stop. “That was shocking,” an anonymous witness told WSOC-TV, alleging it began when one person threw a cup at another. “I felt like I was going to have to stop it, and I don’t know, I just felt like I was going to have to do something I didn’t want to have to do.”

The witness alleged that there was no response to the incident from security despite it going on for around 10 minutes. The CMPD said there were cops as well as Passenger Security Services on the CATS system that night, but authorities said none were in that particular car when the incident took place, Queen City News reported. CATS said security will be increased soon, according to WSOC-TV.

The witness said one of the passengers intervened in the situation herself, WSOC-TV reported. Footage shared by the witness appears to show her intervening in a dispute between the two men.

“She took matters into her own hands and jumped in front of the knife. For him,” the witness alleged.

No injuries were reported as of Wednesday, according to Queen City News. Police said there were no 911 calls. Officials said no emergency reports via the CATS See Say app, text system, website or customer service line were made. The CMPD continues to investigate the incident.

The CMPD has not responded to requests for comment from the Daily Caller. The Charolette Area Transit System did not provide comment.
