Ne-Yo says his love life is less complicated than it sounds — he’s in one relationship, just with three women.

The Grammy-winning singer opened up about his polyamorous arrangement during an upcoming episode of “Sherri,” airing Friday, explaining that the setup came out of a vow to stop lying after a brutal divorce. “After my very public, very ugly divorce, I made the decision that I was never going to tell another lie to a woman ever again in life,” Ne-Yo told the studio audience, prompting applause, before saying all three women knowingly agreed to make the unconventional relationship work.

Reflecting on his divorce, Ne-Yo said he fully accepts responsibility for how his marriage fell apart.

“I own the things that I did in that marriage to mess it up. I own it completely,” he said.

The singer told Sherri he was determined not to repeat those mistakes, explaining that he made his intentions clear from the start and gave his partners the freedom to walk away.

“I didn’t wanna be the reason that anyone that anybody felt like that ever again,” Ne-Yo said, adding that the women ultimately chose to stay.

Ne-Yo said he first laid everything out to the woman he had been seeing the longest, making clear that honesty was nonnegotiable.

“You know I rock with you, you know I love you, but I have to be honest with you — it’s not just you,” he said, explaining that he invited her to meet the other women and decide whether the arrangement could work.

“I let her decide. I let them choose — everybody chose to stick around,” Ne-Yo said.

The singer added that the distinction matters to him.

“I’m not in three relationships,” he said. “I’m in one relationship with three people.”
