Troy Aikman? … The Hurricanes must have inspired the Dolphins.

According to ESPN, the Miami Dolphins have enlisted Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback and current “Monday Night Football” commentator Troy Aikman to serve as a consultant, providing guidance to the team during its ongoing search for a new general manager.

This is not a full-time position, but Aikman will serve in an advisory capacity to the Dolphins throughout their search for the team’s next general manager.

The Dolphins’ ownership sought an external, highly regarded viewpoint from an individual with extensive connections throughout the NFL. With over 30 years of experience as both a player and a broadcaster in the league, Aikman provides exactly that. (RELATED: Patriots’ Stefon Diggs Facing Charges Of Alleged Strangulation, Assault)

Aikman’s consulting position with the Dolphins will have no impact on his duties as the analyst for “MNF” this campaign. He is set to call Saturday night’s game featuring the Seattle Seahawks against the San Francisco 49ers, a contest that will determine the top seed in the NFC.

Miami and veteran general manager Chris Grier agreed to separate Oct. 31 following a 2-7 start to the season. Head coach Mike McDaniel has stayed on in his role, guiding the team to a 5-2 record in the games after Grier’s exit. Heading into their regular-season closer Sunday against the New England Patriots, the Dolphins stand at 7-9.

Champ Kelly has been acting as the Dolphins‘ interim general manager.

I know this is supposed to be temporary, but hell, if I’m Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, I’m trying to hire Aikman as the full-time GM.
