A Somali facility in Minnesota suddenly fixed the incorrect spelling in its name after it gained national attention for not appearing to operate as an actual daycare.

The facility in question, The Quality Learing Center, fixed its improper spelling of the word, “Learning,” by using a patch to hide the incorrect spelling outside of the building, footage taken by the New York Post shows. The facility came into question after YouTuber Nick Shirley released a viral documentary on Friday and alleged that the center appeared to be inactive despite being licensed to care for 99 children.

The center received $1.9 million in 2025 and $4 million in total funding from Minnesota’s Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP), Shirley reported in the documentary.

“I do feel like what was done was someone came to our building outside of operating hours. We have a specific sign on our door that says our days and our hours. [They] came outside of those hours and then claimed, ‘Hey, they’re closed, and they’re still making money.'”

Shirley said he visited ten daycare centers and reportedly toured about a dozen in total.

Somalis have been at the center of another fraudulent case in Minnesota, where federal prosecutors charged dozens of defendants, most of them were Somalis, in connection to the $9 billion in taxpayer funds stolen from social welfare programs. Seventy-eight defendants have been charged with stealing over $350 million from Feeding Our Future, a federal child nutrition program.

Following Shirley’s documentary, Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said on Sunday that his office launched investigations into the facilities in question to “crack down on fraud.” State officials have accused Walz of bearing responsibility for the fraud by “willfully” disregarding “rules and laws to keep fraud reports quiet.”
