The United States launched a strike on a “big facility” inside Venezuela last week, President Donald Trump revealed in a radio interview, dropping the news of the biggest step toward a ground war to date without a formal announcement.

Trump made the surprising remarks in an impromptu interview with John Catsimatidis on WABC radio in New York on Friday. During the discussion, Trump stated that the United States conducted strikes in the country on Christmas Eve. The action, which would be the first known land strike on the socialist nation, has yet to be officially confirmed, while the Venezuelan government has not publicly acknowledged the strikes as of time of writing.

American officials told the New York Times that Trump was referring to a drug facility in Venezuela, but did not provide any additional information.

“We just knocked out — I don’t know if you read or you saw — they have a big plant or big facility where they send the, you know, where the ships come from,” Trump said during his appearance Friday. “Two nights ago we knocked that out. So we hit them very hard.” (RELATED: Trump Orders Major Escalation Against Venezuela)

Trump confirmed to reporters Monday afternoon before his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that there was a “major explosion” in a dock area where “they load the boats up with drugs.”

“So we hit all the boats, and now we hit the area,” Trump added in his remarks to the press. “It’s the implementation area, that’s where they implement, and that is no longer around.”

The Pentagon deferred to the White House, which did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
