Prominent anti-Trump lawyer George Conway filed to run for Congress in New York City on Monday.

Conway, who lives in Bethesda, Md., an affluent Washington, D.C. suburb, will vie in a crowded Democratic primary to represent a deep-blue Manhattan district to succeed Democratic New York Rep. Jerry Nadler, who is retiring. The vocal Trump critic is likely to frame his congressional run around his top attorney credentials and willingness to serve as legal pitbull against Trump in Congress. Conway, 62, is a mainstay in left-wing media and frequently rails against Trump on a podcast published by The Bulwark with the title “George Conway Explains It All,” which he co-hosts. He notably wore a shirt bearing the words “I am Antifa” at a “No Kings” rally in October, the Daily Caller News Foundation first reported.

Conway was reportedly hunting for a Manhattan apartment in November while mulling a congressional run, which could feed “carpetbagger” attacks.

The race for the central Manhattan district — including Central Park, Times Square and the Rockefeller Center — has attracted roughly a dozen candidates in the Democratic primary. The primary election date is set for June 2026.

Social media influencer Jack Schlossberg, the 32 year-old grandson of President John F. Kennedy, is also notably running for the seat. Schlossberg, who served as a campaign surrogate for former Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2024 presidential run, has come under fire for making provocative statements on social media, including repeatedly attacking his uncle, Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Parkland shooting survivor and democratic socialist Cameron Kasky, 25, is also vying for the central Manhattan seat. Kasky’s campaign platform includes the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the creation of a Medicare for All system.

Assembly member Micah Lasher, who represents the wealthy Upper West Side, is viewed as a strong contender for the open House seat. Lasher previously served as an aide to Nadler.

Conway is a former Republican and ex-member of the conservative Federalist Society. He co-founded the anti-Trump Lincoln Project during the president’s first term, but split from the group after reports emerged that its leadership ignored a sexual harassment scandal.

He was married to former Trump aide Kellyanne Conway for more than two decades before the couple divorced in 2023.
