Trump Has Glorious Chance To Turn DC Courses Into Crown Jewels Of American Golf
President Donald Trump might have a glorious chance at turning famous Washington, D.C., public golf courses into America’s crown jewels.
The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that the Trump administration is considering revamping the capital’s public golf courses, which include East Potomac Golf Links, Rock Creek Park Golf, and Langston Golf Course. There are a lot of bureaucratic hoops and red tape the admin would have to jump over and slash through, but it is . (Subscribe to MR. RIGHT, a free weekly newsletter about modern masculinity)
Trump is a real estate guy, and East Potomac Golf Links is some of the best real estate in the city. It’s prime waterfront property. However, because it sits on the river, the course can easily flood. I made the mistake of playing a few days after it had rained, and the entire course was a morass — wet, muddy, and marked with massive divots. Trump, though, could build new irrigation systems, get some soil erosion projects cooking, and ensure that the course never turns into a swampy mess, even when it rains hard.

And if the admin were to revamp Langston Golf Course, a historic black links, Trump would be a hero to many underprivileged minorities in the nation’s capital. Langston could use some serious work, as well as East Potomac. The clubhouse is practically falling apart, and the starters are nonexistent. Trying to tee off at Langston is anarchy, like preschoolers lining up for recess. The authority figure can try his best to keep the process orderly, but the chaos and boundless energy make it all but impossible.
Americans should be proud of their capital. They should also be proud of their capital’s golf courses. Trump should try his best to make these courses great again, without jacking up the costs and fees for golfers. The last thing we would want is for Trump to turn a municipal course into a money grab where the everyman gets cut out of the deal.
