Former “Good Morning America” co-anchors T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach announced their engagement Monday, nearly three years after the affair that got them fired from ABC blew up their careers.

“We are sharing with all of you that we are engaged and we’ve been engaged for just about a month now,” Robach said on the couple’s “Amy & TJ” podcast. Holmes joked that Robach had already been flashing her ring “in crowds of tens of thousands” and “in everyone’s face,” yet “nobody said a word,” according to Page Six. (RELATED: Amy Robach And T.J. Holmes said they decided to go public on their own terms. “We wanted to let you all know before anybody else was able to; we’ve learned that lesson, I guess, in the past about our relationship.”

Robach added that she had worn her ring “very proudly, very excitedly” for weeks, even to “three massive football stadiums” in a row, but “kept waiting for somebody to point it out or ask me, ‘Hey, what’s that?’ And it never happened.”

She speculated that people may have stayed quiet out of “politeness,” given the scrutiny their relationship has faced, according to Page Six.

“We haven’t been keeping it a secret, but nobody asked!” Holmes said, adding that only about 10 family members know the details. He told listeners the couple plans to share the proposal story “sometime soon.”

Holmes and Robach began their relationship while both were married — he to attorney Marilee Fiebig, and she to actor Andrew Shue. The affair led to their ouster from “Good Morning America” and became a tabloid sensation that dominated headlines worldwide.
