A 12-year-old Minnesota boy who dreamed of being a police officer and suffered a fatal heart attack following a recent bike crash was sworn in as an honorary cop Wednesday, according to a press release from the Sartell Police Department.

Raghav Shrestha received the honor Wednesday after his medical team declared he had “no brain activity,” according to the same release. Shrestha was set to be taken off life support later the same day.

“Several of us involved in the incident were able to visit Raghav this morning, and in the presence of his family pin him with his own badge and swear him in as an honorary police officer with Sartell. Our community will continue to support Raghav’s family however we can as they process and grieve,” police said.

The Sartell Police Department identified Shrestha as the victim of an Oct. 5 bike crash in a previous update that appears in the same release. Although the boy was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, he suffered a severe head injury, which is believed to have caused his initial cardiac arrest and left him in the pediatric intensive care unit.

According to an October 5 press release from police, the 12-year-old crashed his bike at Northside Park while riding down “Muskie Hill.” The boy crashed at the bottom of the hill, and his 10-year-old companion contacted 911 for assistance but could not verify their location. A nearby individual who was a CPR instructor helped confirm the location and also began to administer CPR to Shrestha after confirming he was not breathing and did not have a pulse, police said.

Officers responded to the scene and continued to administer CPR before Shrestha was transported to St. Cloud Hospital, where he regained vital signs. The child was later flown to Hennepin County Medical Center in critical condition. (RELATED: Mayor Allegedly Tried To Commit Suicide, Stole Money From Church. Officials Launch Investigation)

Shrestha died Wednesday moments after being removed from life support, KARE 11 reported. He was a seventh grader at Sartell-St. Stephen Middle School.
