Fmr Democratic Rep Says Biden Couldn't Have Pulled Off Trump's Israel-Hamas Peace Deal

Former Democratic Tennessee Rep. Harold Ford Jr. said Thursday on Fox News’ “The Five” that former President Joe Biden could not have accomplished President Donald Trump’s Israel-Hamas peace deal.

Trump announced Wednesday on Truth Social that Israel and Hamas had formally agreed to the first phase of a U.S.-backed peace plan. Discussing the historic deal, guest host Dana Perino said that while additional phases remain, the agreement signals a “brighter future” for the Middle East.

“You’re right. I give the President a lot of credit here today … It was really the last month, and I give the President tremendous credit for what he’s done, and there’s no doubt, we showed a montage of people talking. We may have done a bit unfair to some of them, but you raised some of the points that I think they were trying to raise,” Ford Jr. said. “The ceasefire and the return of hostages are indispensable to us being able to get to the next steps, meaning what does Hamas disarmament look like? What does a political arrangement or configuration in Gaza look like? Will Hamas be a part of it? Obviously, we hope not.”

Hamas announced last week — prior to the second anniversary of the Israel-Hamas war — that it would tentatively agree to release all remaining hostages and relinquish power under Trump’s proposed ceasefire agreement. (RELATED: Rubio Breaks Down Which Part Of Hamas Deal Will Be ‘A Tough Piece’)

On Thursday, the Israeli cabinet approved the first phase of the deal, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu posting on X that members approved the “framework” to help secure the release of hostages, both dead and alive.

According to CBS News, the Israeli military is expected to withdraw to an agreed-upon line in the Gaza Strip, a process expected to take fewer than 24 hours, after which Hamas will have 72 hours to release the hostages.

“What did the Israeli military configuration geographically look like going forward, and how do we think about the economics going forward? Who will contribute the most to rebuilding Gaza to allow for the kind of economic future that President Trump, I think, so eloquently talked about during the press conference with his cabinet members?” Ford Jr. asked.

“So, I say to Democrats and Republicans, David Ignatius is right, Joe Biden could not have done this. At least, he didn’t do it in his first term, and it’s unlikely he would have behaved as President Trump has behaved over the last several months,” Ford Jr. added. “I give him much credit for it, but we should not kid ourselves. The next several months are as critical, if not more critical, than the moment we find ourselves in today, as joyous as today is.”

During an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Wednesday, Trump said the hostages, both dead and alive, still held by Hamas are expected to be released “probably” on Monday. Trump added that after speaking with victims’ parents, those whose children were killed are “equally intent” as those with living children on bringing them home.
