MLB Franchise Ends 24-Year Misery With Glorious Postseason Win

I’m not the biggest fan of the city of Seattle, but there’s something special about their sports teams, the Mariners included.
The “Emerald City” absolutely exploded Sunday night after the M’s scored a 3-2 win against the Detroit Tigers, which became the first postseason victory at home for the franchise in a whopping 24 years — nearly a quarter of a century! But the misery is finally over.
Around 47,000 fans packed the seats of T-Mobile Park in what was a sell-out crowd, and the nearly 50k in attendance had one hell of a night as history was made with the long-awaited home victory. The fans’ roars were so special that you can hear the emotion in them.
And there was also this guy … what a moment:

The Mariners put themselves on the board first in Game 2, taking a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. Though with the exception of Seattle second baseman Jorge Polanco hitting a home run, Tigers starting pitcher Tarik Skubal kept the M’s offense in check.
On the flip side, Mariners starting pitcher Luis Castillo was an absolute horse on the mound, only allowing one hit against him in 4.2 innings of action. (RELATED: It’s Unbelievable How Much Money LIV Golf Has Lost Over The Years, And 2024’s Numbers Are Jaw-Dropping: REPORT)
In the eighth inning, the Tigers went up 2-1, and that’s what began the script for the M’s comeback.
In the bottom of the eighth, with one out on the board and facing off against Detroit relief pitcher Kyle Finnegan, catcher Cal Raleigh popped a double into the corner of right field. Afterward, center fielder Julio Rodriguez got a hit of his own down the line to left field, which drove Raleigh in to hand the Mariners a 3-2 edge.

Mariners haven’t won a home playoff game in 24 years.
Julio Rodriguez was at bat with Raleigh on 2nd. Tied 2-2. 8th inn.
The crowd chants his name: “JULIO! JULIO! JULIO!” Next pitch he rips an RBI double to give Seattle the lead.
How can you not be romantic about baseball?

From there, it was straight up believing for the Seattle faithful as they could feel their first home playoff victory in 24 years within reach. And that’s exactly what happened.

24 years. 24 long years.
But finally, the Seattle Mariners have won a home playoff game again.
