Alligator Hunt Leads To Record-Breaking Harvest

Gators got clipped left and right in Arkansas!

According to officials from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC), the 2025 alligator season in the state saw a record-breaking harvest.

Per AGFC officials, a total of 205 alligators were checked, which beats out the prior record from 2023 when 202 gators were checked. The 205 tally for 2025 was one higher than the quota of 204 that was set for the season. (RELATED: Alligator Caught In … Detroit?)

“We’re really happy with the outcome this year,” said AGFC Herpetologist Amanda Bryant. “We always want 100% of the quota to be filled so it’s great when that happens.”

Bryant went on to explain that the quota gets eclipsed after numerous hunters snatch an animal on the same night, and to close out the season, just one or two remain.

“It’s pretty common,” said Bryant. “We set the quota a few animals short of the total needed harvest with this in mind.”

I cringe a little bit at alligator hunting just because I love them so much, but at the same time living in Florida, I also understand that it’s needed for population control. Which is great considering the American alligator used to be endangered.

Good on Arkansas on meeting their quota and setting a new record in the process, awesome stuff.
