'Don't Actually Arrest Criminals': Independent Journalist Rips Police After Being Arrested While Covering Antifa

Conservative journalist Nick Sortor slammed Portland police Friday on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” after being arrested for “disorderly conduct” while reporting on the militant far-left network Antifa.
Antifa, now designated a terrorist organization, has been a part of ongoing protests and vandalism outside the city’s U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility since the summer. Discussing his arrest following an Antifa attack, guest host Joey Jones asked Sortor to explain what led to the charges.
“Man, it’s crazy,” Sortor said. “The entire day has been crazy. I mean, it’s still the same day as yesterday for me because I’ve been up all night because I was stuffed in a jail. And the jail here in Portland, weirdly empty because they don’t actually arrest criminals around here. Just people like me that report on what’s actually going on on the ground out here. I am next to the ICE facility. I’m on federal property right now.”
“And Portland police won’t dare step foot on federal property, as we know. But we know that these Antifa thugs hate to be filmed in general,” Sortor added. “They hate it even more when you film them while they’re screaming and crying because they were just maced because they F’d around and found out by pushing federal agents. They’re not as tough as they want you to believe that they are.”
Despite ongoing concerns over Antifa’s prolonged presence, local police in Portland have appeared to avoid arresting anti-ICE rioters. On Thursday, Sortor posted videos of his coverage, showing the group becoming agitated while he recorded. (RELATED: Antifa Whistleblower Shares What Made Him Quit After 10 Years)

In a video shared on X, an Antifa member dressed in all black repeatedly confronted Sortor as he said he was simply trying to cross the street. The person appeared to throw the first swing, to which Sortor then appeared to defend against, ending with him landing on his back in a nearby planter.
Jones asked Sortor whether he believed the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) arrested him because he was the “last one” to swing or if they recognized who he was.
“Well, considering the fact that they don’t arrest anybody here ever, especially, down here, you saw Katie Daviscourt with that black eye that she got. The police followed the assailant and did nothing. They just let them go. Right? Now, all of a sudden they change it when I am here, when a conservative journalist is on the ground exposing what’s actually going on,” Sortor said.
“Is that just a coincidence? How did that just happen all of a sudden? I don’t really think it is a coincidence, unfortunately, but because I didn’t have very glowing reviews for them on Laura’s [Ingraham] show last night when I was here, and it took them over an hour to figure out what the charge was,” Sortor added. “After about an hour, they’re like, ‘OK, yeah, we’ll charge them with disorderly conduct.’ If what I was doing is disorderly, what do you call people with megaphones at three o’clock in the morning, lighting fires in the middle of the street? What is that?”
Sortor’s arrest comes just days after Post-Millennial reporter Katie Daviscourt was assaulted by an Antifa member, leaving her with a black eye. Despite identifying her attacker to PPB officials, no arrest was made.
Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed to Sortor that Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon will review his case, according to the journalist’s post.
