Europe Isn't Safe Even For NFL Players

We need to re-think these international games …

Before the National Football League’s first contest in Ireland, the Pittsburgh Steelers had one hell of an experience. And that’s because their backup quarterback Skylar Thompson was jumped and robbed in Dublin by assailants Friday night, suffering minor injuries in the process.

Currently on injured reserve, Thompson eventually returned to the team and is fine. He was on the sideline for the game against the Minnesota Vikings. (RELATED: Seahawks’ Jason Myers Rips Smelling Salts Before Kicking ‘TNF’-Winning Field Goal Against Cardinals)

“We are aware of a situation involving Skylar Thompson on Friday night in Dublin,” said Burt Lauten, the Steelers senior director of communications, in an official statement, per NFL Media. “We will have no further comment at this time as we are working with NFL security to gather more information regarding the incident.”

The 28-year-old Thompson is currently in his first campaign with Pittsburgh. Formerly a seventh-round draft pick, Thompson made three starts in his rookie season with the Miami Dolphins, with one of those games being in the postseason. 2024, his last year in Miami, saw him with one start.

I’ve never really been a fan of international games anyways, so let’s just nix ’em. First Brazil, now Ireland. It’s just problem after problem.
