Police are searching for the gunman who shot a 13-year-old boy in the head outside a Dunkin Donuts in Queens on Monday, leaving the child in critical condition.

The shooting occurred on a Cambria Heights corner named for another 13-year-old, Kevin Miller, who was killed in 2009 when he walked into a gang gunfight outside a McDonald’s. His killers each received 50-year prison sentences. (RELATED: Jasmine Crockett Provides Head-Scratching Explanation About Law: Committing Crime ‘Doesn’t Make’ Person ‘Criminal’)

Surveillance video shows a boy sprinting into a deli around 8:20 a.m., appearing to alert others to the shooting before several rushed outside in shock.

Detectives reviewed surveillance footage suggesting the attack was targeted, ABC7 News reported. Police said the shooter pulled up on a scooter, exchanged words with the boy and his friends, then fired once, striking the victim in the head.

“I just heard ‘pop’ and then I saw kids running down the block,” witness Ronald Blain told CBS News. “When I went outside, I saw the kid on the floor. I knew something was going on, and usually they are fighting, but then when I saw the kid laying down, I said nah, that don’t look right and then that’s when the ambulance came, and they picked him up and he didn’t look too good.”

The boy was taken to Cohen Children’s Medical Center in critical condition.

Police said the gunman is still at large. He was described as having an afro and wearing a white hoodie. white sneakers and a backpack with the word “Jaws” on it.

“There is nothing more devastating than yet another child becoming a victim of senseless gun violence,” Mayor Eric Adams posted on X. “Our hearts ache with the family and friends of this 13-year-old who is fighting for his life because of this epidemic.”

Police urged anyone with information to call the New York Police Department’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be submitted online or by direct message to @NYPDTips on X.
