Death Of Congressional Staffer For Republican Rep Under Investigation

The death of Regina Santos-Aviles, U.S. Representative Tony Gonzales’s Regional District Director, is under investigation, police said.
The Uvalde Police Department (UPD) and the Texas Rangers are investigating the death of Santos-Aviles, a Uvalde resident, who passed away Saturday after being transported to the hospital following a police call to her home Saturday night, according to a UPD press release and call sheet report obtained by the Daily Caller.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office said she died Sunday at 6:34 a.m., with no official cause or manner disclosed, according to NEWS 4 San Antonio. As of Wednesday, the cause and manner of death were still under investigation, KSAT.com reported. UPD Chief Homer Delgado said in an official statement on Monday that there were no signs of foul play in Santos-Aviles’ death and that the investigation is ongoing.
“We are working closely with the victim’s family, who are fully cooperating with our investigators during this difficult time. At this point, there is no indication of foul play. As is our standard procedure, all unattended deaths are investigated,” he said.
Delgado urged the Uvalde community to come together following Santos-Aviles’ death and emphasized that no further details will be released due to respect for the family.

Santos-Aviles previously served as executive director of the Uvalde Area Chamber of Commerce before leaving that role in November 2021 to become the regional director for Gonzales’ office in Uvalde, according to her LinkedIn profile.
The Caller has also reached out to the Texas Rangers for additional information on Santos-Aviles’ death but didn’t receive a response in time for publication.
