Today’s newsletter is a somber one — conservative activist and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was shot and killed in Utah. 

WE’VE HAD IT 

Dark, demonic forces have seized our country. 

Someone shot and killed conservative activist Charlie Kirk during a campus speaking event on Wednesday. 

Charlie was doing an event for his popular “Prove Me Wrong” series when a single shot rang out, striking him in the neck. The video is graphic and horrifying. Students immediately sprinted away from the event. Former Republican Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz, who was on the ground, said he did not see the shot but did see Charlie immediately fall backward. 

President Donald Trump announced that Charlie had passed in a Truth Social post at 4:40 p.m. 

I take comfort in the fact that Charlie had a very strong Christian faith. I pray for his reunion with his Creator. 

But mostly, right now, I am really fucking angry. 

Months before his untimely death, Charlie warned about “assassination culture” in our country:

“​​Forty-eight percent of liberals say it would be at least somewhat justified to murder Elon Musk. Fifty-five percent said the same about Donald Trump.

In California, activists are naming ballot measures after Luigi Mangione.

The left is being whipped into a violent frenzy. Any setback, whether losing an election or losing a court case, justifies a maximally violent response.

This is the natural outgrowth of left-wing protest culture tolerating violence and mayhem for years on end. The cowardice of local prosecutors and school officials has turned the left into a ticking time bomb.”

How do we continue to live in a country filled with people who hate us and want us dead? 

It has been seven years since a gunman attempted to massacre Republican politicians on a baseball field. Just over one year since Trump was struck in the ear by a would-be assassin’s bullet. Political violence — mobs, vandalism, riots — is a regular occurrence on the left. 

Leftists and even Democratic politicians call their enemies fascists, authoritarians, white supremacists, Hitler. Just the evening before Charlie was shot, Trump was called “Hitler” by left-wing protesters at a D.C. restaurant. Democrats foment fear and violence, whipping up their deranged base by painting political opponents as existential threats to democracy, freedom, and life itself. Liberals are already cheering Charlie’s death on X, Bluesky, Reddit, and other platforms. 

Charlie believed in debating people on the other side of the aisle. He wanted to talk out our differences as a country. He loved dialogue. He supported free speech. 

They killed him for it. 

They used bullets to silence the power of his words. But they made a major miscalculation, because he will be even more powerful now. 

This tweet says it all: “I don’t think they understand that Charlie was the nice version.” 

Charlie is a martyr. And his death will not be in vain.
