A disaster during a natural disaster … a true worst-case scenario.

Insane video shows a helicopter spinning out of control before crashing into a lake, doing so while on a mission to help fight a gargantuan wildfire. The helicopter was trying to get a bucket of water prior to accidentally going down a little too far, taking the chopper into the lake and causing the pilot to lose control.

Taking place Sunday just after 7 p.m., the incident happened at Rosporden Lake in France. (RELATED: Wild Video Shows Arizona State Football Stadium Completely Being Taken Over By Massive Dust Storm)

The chopper, known as a Morane 29 water bomber, was undergoing a routine trip to pick up some lake water that was meant to be used on Rosporden burning fields. However, the pilot dropped down too quickly while getting a bucket fill, resulting in the tail of the helicopter becoming submerged. As the helicopter rose up, the pilot ended up in a fight with the steering, with the helicopter ultimately spinning out of control and then crashing into the lake only a few seconds later.

Fortunately, both of the men on the chopper weren’t injured, managed to escape, and swam back to shore.

For weeks now, France has been battling wildfires, with flames spread across an area bigger than the entire city of Paris. The fires started at the beginning of August when “unprecedented” flames roared through villages that killed at least one person, according to local police. 13 others, including 11 firefighters, were injured.
