Watch Joy Reid's Career Flash Before Her Eyes As Piers Morgan Confronts Her On History Of Playing Race Card

Former MSNBC host Joy Reid became enraged on Thursday as Piers Morgan confronted her on constantly playing the “race card.”

During their explosive interview on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Morgan told Reid point-blank that she was not fired from MSNBC because of her skin color, prompting a visibly offended Reid to accuse Morgan of attempting to “racialize” conversations with black people. The former MSNBC host then claimed, without evidence, that it is Morgan’s “schtick” to make conversations about race.

“First of all, I love the fact that your ‘play the race card’ is your version of the race card. You literally are so fixated on trying to racialize conversations with me, Piers, and I actually find it quite charming,” Reid said in response to Morgan.

“You’ve racialized more conversations in your tenure at MSNBC than any host in history. Come on!” Morgan fired back. (RELATED: Joy Reid Breaks Down In Tears Over Being Canceled By MSNBC)

Earlier in the interview, Morgan asked Reid why she is willing to label President Donald Trump as a “fascist” over his mass deportations, but has no criticism of former President Barack Obama, who earned the nickname “Deporter-in-Chief” during his presidency over his own deportation policies. Reid, who has a long history of obsessing over race, ranted that Morgan’s so-called “schtick” as a “white European” is to “fixate” on race.

“I understand that this is your schtick, Piers. I get that this is your schtick … And it’s so interesting to me that you, yourself, as a white European, find when people of color talk about race, that you believe is racializing conversations. But when people like you fixate on ‘well Barack Obama was a black president, why don’t you object to that?’ That is racializing a conversation about the former president of the United States.”

“I find it hilarious because you’re the one who said Donald Trump is a white fascist, and yet when Obama did the same thing, I’m not allowed to mention his skin color,” Morgan said.

Morgan called Reid a “hypocrite” for attacking Trump, but not Obama, over mass deportations. Reid discredited Trump’s success in securing the U.S.-Mexico border, and accused the administration of conducting “literal terrorism against brown migrants.”

After the showdown, Reid accused Morgan of having a “weird [and] negative obsession with black people,” particularly Meghan Markle and other black women.

“Piers definitely seems like a Brit from the old 18th and 19th century school. [He is] thoroughly obsessed with black women in the creepiest possible way. He never misses an opportunity to play gotcha with black guests on his podcast, whom he, like other right-wing podcasters, use as fodder to keep their very white audiences angry, paranoid and clicking,” Reid said.

Reid made several racial remarks about white people during her time on MSNBC. She lashed out at white women on Nov. 5 for largely backing President Donald Trump over former Vice President Kamala Harris. She further referred to Democrat Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly as “super white” and compared him to a “mayonnaise sandwich on Wonder bread white” in August while discussing Harris’ running mate.

In April 2022, the former MSNBC host also accused Elon Musk of wanting a return to apartheid because he supported free speech on Twitter. In reality, Musk attended anti-apartheid protests and concerts as a child growing up in South Africa in the 1980s, according to an excerpt from Walter Isaacson’s book, “Elon Musk.”

“There was a time when people had the double hashtags around their names because they were Jewish and right-wingers were saying ‘get in the oven’ anytime you made any benign comment on Twitter. They attacked women, the misogyny was crazy on Twitter for a while. Elon Musk, I guess he misses the old South Africa in the ’80s, he wants that back,” Reid said.

Reid further accused Republicans in March 2021 of being willing to trade in tax cuts to “openly say the n-word.”
