‘That Will Get Their Attention’: Gregg Jarrett Describes Tactic To Make Sanctuary Cities Stop Harboring Illegals

Legal analyst Gregg Jarrett said on Fox Business Monday that sanctuary cities must face serious consequences for harboring illegal immigrants.
Democratic lawmakers said Monday that their constituents are encouraging violent acts against immigration agents, with some even suggesting they should be willing to get shot to grab media attention. During an appearance on “The Evening Edit,” Jarrett said federal law must be enforced, particularly in cities like Los Angeles, which actively shield illegal immigrants and obstruct federal authorities.
“It’s a crime to impede or interfere with ICE. It’s a separate felony to harbor or shield people here illegally. So I was glad to see the DOJ finally, belatedly, sue Los Angeles for obstruction,” Jarrett said. “The remedy here is an injunction, but, most importantly, a loss of tens of millions of dollars in federal funds. Maybe that will get their attention.”
The Trump administration filed a lawsuit against Los Angeles, challenging its sanctuary city policies. The Department of Justice says LA’s sanctuary laws obstruct ICE’s mission and violate the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution. Jarrett said anti-Trump rhetoric has fueled a dangerous wave of violence.

“Just look at the numbers. Attacks on ICE agents are up 700 percent, according to DHS. That is appalling. These agents are just doing their job. They’re enforcing the law. But in places like Texas, Portland, Los Angeles and elsewhere, law enforcement is literally under violent siege,” Jarrett said.
Jarrett blamed liberal politicians.
“That’s only inciting and encouraging more of it. LA Mayor Karen Bass took the side of chaos and lawlessness over law and order,” Jarrett said. “Governor Gavin Newsom tried and failed, of course, to stop Trump from deploying the National Guard to save lives that Newsom doesn’t give a damn about. These sanctuary jurisdictions are violating federal law.”
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported a staggering 700% increase in assaults against ICE officers and federal immigration enforcement officials this year compared to last. From Jan. 21 to June 30, 2024, DHS recorded 10 assaults on immigration officials, but this number skyrocketed to 79 assaults during the same period in 2025 after President Donald Trump took office.
Los Angeles witnessed widespread anti-ICE violence earlier this year, with rioters targeting law enforcement to protest the Trump Administration’s deportation policies. DHS reported that rioters threw rocks, set cars on fire, assaulted police officers and vandalized city property, including spray-painting violent slogans such as “kill a cop” on street signs.
