Oh, this is good … LOL.

Whit Merrifield, a three-time All-Star in Major League Baseball, has announced his retirement following seven campaigns. And in his announcement that was posted on social media, Whit decided to issue out a “sorry” to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Merrifield became a Phillie in 2024, and at the time, the organization and fanbase were ecstatic about it. But he couldn’t seem to hit the ball while there, and ended up becoming disconnected from Philly. Well, he went down Memory Lane during his announcement and mentioned his time in the City of Brotherly Love, and man, it’s hilarious.

“Philly, I liked you way more than you liked me. Sorry I stunk for you,” said Merrifield. (RELATED: Mets Players Refuse To Hit Baseballs Over Gay Month)

In Philly‘s defense, Merrifield’s stat line in 2024 was pretty dreadful, only averaging .199 at the plate in 53 games and recording a .572 OPS. Merrifield knocked three home runs and 11 RBIs that season. Later that year, the Phillies DFA‘d him.

Merrifield spent nine years in MLB, tallying a .280 batting average, 94 home runs and 485 RBIs. In 2019, he peaked with a .302 batting average, 16 homers and 74 RBIs. He also led the league with 206 hits.

Whit stated in his announcement that one of the biggest reasons he retired is due to having a baby in 2024 with wife Jordan Michael.

Congratulations to Whit Merrifield on his career! Enjoy retirement, bud!
