PGA Star Luke Clanton Explains How He Went From Atheist To Christian

This is a pretty cool story.
It hasn’t even been a full month since Luke Clanton started his professional golf career, but he’s already trying to emulate superstar Scottie Scheffler. And considering how he’s the No. 1 player in the world, good choice. With that being said, it doesn’t really have anything to do with Scheffler’s game, but more of what he believes — that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior.
Scheffler has been honest about his Christianity throughout his career, saying that it’s faith rather than golf where he finds his identity as a person. Clanton has decided to adopt that same philosophy as he kicks off his career as a pro, but if you told him a few years ago that this was going to happen, he would’ve told you that you’re crazy.
Clanton, formerly the world’s No. 1-ranked amateur, was recently interviewed by GOLF where he talked about his life as a Christian, and spoke about what happened to him at Florida State that brought him to Christ. “I grew up, and my mom and dad were Christian, my sisters were Christian, but in high school, I was always a little skeptical, and I was actually an atheist. I just didn’t believe in anything, I actually tried to prove it wasn’t right,” said Clanton, per OutKick.
“I saw this guy on the side of the street after I went to class for two minutes and left, and I saw this guy and he looked homeless, so I just tried to kind of walk around him,” continued Clanton. “He looked at me and said ‘are you okay?’ and I was like ‘yeah, I’m fine’ and I kind of shrugged him off.
“I walk past him and then he said to my back, ‘are you okay?’ and I turned around and I said ‘yeah man, I’m fine, I don’t need help,’ then he pulls out a bible behind him and hands it to me and goes ‘Jesus loves you.’
“That was the first moment of my life where it just struck me, where I was like this is such an odd moment because I was thinking about Jesus the last couple of weeks. I went back and went to the one bible verse I knew at the time was John 3:16 and it just kind of went from there.”
Faith is a big part of PGA Tour rookie Luke Clanton’s life.
