‘Good Luck With That!’: Tom Homan Has Message For Democrats’ Socialist Nominee

Border czar Tom Homan wished Socialist Democratic New York Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani the best of “luck” Wednesday in his attempts to block U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from arresting illegal migrants in New York City if he wins the general election for mayor.

Late Tuesday, polls showed Mamdani had secured the Democratic mayoral nomination, with former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo conceding to the socialist Democrat. While discussing the Trump administration’s ongoing crackdown on illegal migrants on Fox Business’ “Kudlow,” Homan was asked to respond to Mamdani’s vow to kick “fascist ICE out of” the city. “Good luck with that! Federal law trumps him every day, every hour of every minute. We’re going to be in New York City. Matter of fact, because it’s a sanctuary city, President Trump made it clear a week and a half ago. We’re going to double down and triple down on sanctuary cities,” Homan said.

“If we can’t arrest the bad guy in a county jail, one agent arresting one bad guy, they release him in the streets like New York does every day,” Homan added. “We’ve got to send a whole team to look for this guy. Not only that, we’re going to send additional teams to look for all the people they arrest. We’re going to concentrate on sanctuary cities because we know they’re releasing public safety threats and national security threats back to the street.”

Running on support for issues like a $30 minimum wage, free buses, free childcare and city-run grocery stores, Mamdani has also been vocal about “Trump-proofing” New York City. Outlining his proposed policies on ICE and President Donald Trump’s push against sanctuary cities, Mamdani is advocating to end cooperation with ICE and invest over $160 million in immigration legal funding.

According to projections from the Associated Press, Mamdani led Cuomo by roughly 7 points, securing 43.5% of the Democratic vote, while the former governor trailed at 36.4%. Before the race was officially called Tuesday, Cuomo conceded to his supporters, saying Mamdani had “touched young people and inspired them and moved them and got them to come out and vote.”

“So we know we’ve got a problem there. So we don’t have that problem in Florida, where most sheriffs work for us,” Homan said. “So we’re going to double up and triple up on New York. Not only are we going to send more agents to the neighborhood, we’re going to increase worksite enforcement tenfold.”

“If we can’t arrest him in the jail, you’re going to force him in the neighborhood, then we’ll find him in the neighborhood,” Homan said. “If we can’t find him in the neighborhood, we’ll find him at the worksite. So game on, we’re coming.”

Despite sanctuary cities like Los Angeles and New York City attempting to push back on Trump’s crackdown on illegal migrants, the president signed an executive order in April directing Attorney General Pam Bondi and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to identify city and state governments not complying with federal immigration laws.

As ICE raids ramped up in June, sanctuary cities like Los Angeles saw massive protests and riots, with rioters torching cars, vandalizing buildings and looting stores, leaving downtown Los Angeles in ruins.
