Flair’s decades-long career in the National Wrestling Alliance, World Wrestling Federation and World Championship Wrestling defined an era in the sport. He was widely recognized as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, and continues to maintain a substantial fan following.

Flair has suffered a series of medical setbacks in recent years.

He was hospitalized with stomach pain in August 2017 and within hours of checking into a hospital was told he was in the early stages of kidney failure and close to cognitive heart failure. His condition was reportedly the result of alcohol abuse, according to People.

The star’s family members were notified that his odds of survival were just 20% and doctors quickly put him in a medically-induced coma. They removed a portion of his bowel and inserted a pacemaker.

Flair addressed the medical crisis in a 2017 interview with the outlet.

“I crashed in an airplane and broke my back, I’ve been hit by lightning – But this is totally different. Anything I’ve been through before is nothing like this,” he told People at the time. (RELATED: Famous 80s Singer Morten Harket Reveals Uncurable Diagnosis)

Flair credited his partner of 13 years, Wendy Barlow, for being by his side during the ordeal. They have since parted ways.

The famous wrestler’s treatment plan and prognosis have not been disclosed.
