‘Don’t Be Suing Me’: Joy Behar Falsely Says Elon Musk Was ‘Pro-Apartheid.’ She Later Walks It Back Live On-Air

dailycaller.com

“The View” co-host Joy Behar had to walk back her baseless accusation Thursday that Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) overseer Elon Musk supported apartheid when he lived in South Africa as a child.

Behar adamantly argued that Musk was “pro-apartheid” and still currently has that “mentality,” though she provided no evidence of that being the case. In fact, Musk attended an anti-apartheid concert that opposed the racial system, according to an excerpt of Walter Isaacson’s book, “Elon Musk.”

“[Musk] kisses [President Donald Trump’s] butt and strokes his tiny ego, a big ego, whatever it is. And he can take a nap while the guy [who] was not born in this country, who was born under apartheid in South Africa, so he has that mentality going on. He was pro-apartheid as I understand it,” Behar said. (RELATED: Whoopi Goldberg Attempts To Burn Musk Over SpaceX Contracts — It Quickly Blows Up In Her Face)

In the next segment, Behar admitted that she had just assumed that Musk supported apartheid and did not actually have any evidence to back up her claim. The co-host then asked that Musk not sue her for her baseless accusation.

“I was just gonna say that now I’m getting some flack because I said that Musk was pro-apartheid,” Behar said. “I don’t really know for sure if he was. He grew up at that time when apartheid was in full blown before the great [former South African President] Nelson Mandala fixed that. [Musk] was around at that time, but maybe he was, maybe he wasn’t. He might have been a young guy, too. So, don’t be suing me, okay, Elon? They’re allowed to say any lie they want but we have to be really strict, that’s why this show’s important.”

Musk was born in South Africa in June 1971, making him nearly 19 years old when apartheid ended in May 1990. He moved to the U.S. in 1992 to attend Stanford University and became a U.S. citizen in 2002.

Democrats have accused Musk of being the true president and have raged at his efforts to eliminate wasteful government spending by downsizing the federal government. DOGE reported that it saved the federal government $65 billion in spending by conducting mass layoffs and canceling many programs that the government wasted money on, including the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) spending on sex changes in Guatemala.

The co-hosts have been forced to make several corrections on-air. Co-host Ana Navarro had to issue a correction after she falsely said that Republican Texas Rep. Troy Nehls held a gun directly at a rioter during the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot, though another rioter held that firearm, and co-host Whoopi Goldberg had to walk back her baseless claim that Vice President J.D. Vance and Musk want to kill Trump.

Behar also had to immediately clean up her remark in Nov. 2023 after she suggested that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton won the 2016 election.
