New Quentin Tarantino Movie Announced, But With Surprising Twist

Quentin Tarantino says he will retire after his tenth film. That promise has raised pressure around his final project, which remains unsettled. In 2024, Tarantino scrapped The Movie Critic after deciding it felt too close to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The move shut down months of speculation about returning characters and surprise cameos tied to his past work.
Even with that setback, Tarantino has not slowed down. He continues to write, produce, and act. His acting work has mostly been small roles in his own films like Death Proof, and Django Unchained. He has also taken larger roles in Pulp Fiction, From Dusk Till Dawn, and Reservoir Dogs. Now, he is stepping into another ensemble project.
Variety confirms Tarantino has joined the cast of Tangled Up in Blue, a new film from director Jamie Adams. The cast includes Kylie Minogue, Allison Williams, RZA, Sofia Boutella, Craig Roberts, and Hugh Skinner. Filming is already underway in Wales, where Tarantino and Minogue were seen shooting scenes over the weekend.
The film is produced by Sabine Stener, Randy Kleinman, and Jordan Yale Levine for Visor Entertainment. It marks a second collaboration between Tarantino and Adams after Only What We Carry, which premiered at Tribeca earlier this month.
Details about the story remain limited. The title points to Bob Dylan’s 1975 song, which Tarantino has called his favorite. The track explores complicated relationships from shifting viewpoints. That structure lines up with Tarantino’s style in films like Kill Bill, Inglorious Basterds, and The Hateful Eight, where he often uses non linear storytelling and sharp dialogue.
Adams said he did not expect Tarantino to accept the role. Tarantino has a long history of turning down major studio offers, including Speed, Men in Black, and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Instead, he tends to focus on his own scripts and selective collaborations.
That changed quickly. Adams said the two connected over Zoom and discussed film, television, and personal topics. He described the conversation as “Disneyland for filmmakers.” Tarantino even offered notes on his character during the call. Adams initially thought the actor might pass, but Tarantino later confirmed he was fully committed and excited to take direction.
Tarantino will play a wealthy benefactor in Tangled Up in Blue. The role adds another layer to a career that continues to evolve, even as he insists the end of his directing work is near. That tension leaves Hollywood watching closely, as one of its most recognizable voices weighs his next move.
