Berlin's Christopher Street Day pride march has been shut down due to a police operation after a car is believed to have driven into a crowd near the Tiergarten district, police said late Saturday.

Several people were injured, causing police to shut down the street party.

"We are conducting an intensive search for suspects," police spokesman Florian Nath said in a video posted on X. Police and emergency services remained at the scene, while visitors were asked to leave the area.

It was not immediately clear what had happened.

Several ambulances were at the scene, dpa correspondents reported earlier.

Hundreds of thousands of people had gathered in the German capital on Saturday to celebrate Pride. Organizers said the march was intended to send a message of democracy, tolerance and diversity.
