"And in the conversation and dialogue, people do want to focus on how the other side is misunderstanding them. We do both. We are also misunderstanding, so if we can have that conversation, I think we can get to a better understanding of the challenges we face, on security, on trade, on a variety of different issues. I think we can get there, and I know for sure that the world is going to be a better place if we do, and the real hope is that we get to the point where China and the U.S. work together on global challenges that challenge us both."

STORYLINE:
A U.S. bipartisan congressional delegation which is visiting Beijing met on Tuesday with China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Chairman of the National People’s Congress Zhao Leji.
"We hope this visit will help friends in the U.S. Congress understand China accurately, perceive China objectively and treat our differences reasonably," Wang told the U.S. lawmakers during the talks.
Relations between the two countries have shown "stabilisation," which is "worth cherishing," he added.
The visit, led by Rep. Adam Smith, a Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, is the first from the House of Representatives to China since 2019, and comes as tensions have risen between the two countries over trade, technology and opposing views on global conflicts.
The aim of the trip, Smith said, is to increase dialogue between the two sides. "The real hope is that we get to the point where China and the U.S. work together on global challenges that challenge us both."
Earlier, the U.S. delegation said they hoped China would take meaningful action to reduce the inflow of fentanyl into the U.S. and they expressed concern over China's restrictions on the global supply of rare earths, according to a readout from the House Armed Services Committee on Monday.
The congressional delegation to China also includes Michael Baumgartner, a Republican member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, as well as Ro Khanna and Chrissy Houlahan, both Democrats on the House Armed Services Committee.
The lawmakers are in China until Thursday.
The delegation met with Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun and separately with Vice Premier He Lifeng on Monday after holding talks with Premier Li Qiang on Sunday.
