Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is predicting a “monumental defeat” for Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections for control of Congress.

Christie, a failed presidential candidate whom many on the political right consider to be a RINO, or Republican In Name Only, made the prognostication on comedian Hasan Minhaj’s recent podcast “Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know.”

“Do you think Republican voters want the truth?” Minhaj asked.

“Well, certainly not all of them right now. Probably not a majority of them right now,” Christie responded.

“But you know what? You know what forces people to have to listen to the truth? Losing. Losing forces you, politically, to have to listen to the truth. And I think we’re on our way to a monumental defeat as a party in the 2026 midterms.

“And when that happens, I think people, for practical reasons, will begin to reevaluate whether they really want to continue to hear the things that led to the losing, or whether they want to hear some different ideas and a different approach.”

Minhaj pressed: “Do you really think the Democrats have a chance to win the 2026 midterms in a major way?”

“Oh, I think they’ll win the House,” Christie said.

“And frankly, I think they’ve got a better chance at the Senate today than I thought they would have, given the map.”

Jim Hoft at the Gateway Pundit noted: “This is the same Chris Christie who got crushed in the 2024 Republican primaries, who was booed relentlessly by conservative crowds, and who positioned his entire campaign as the anti-Trump alternative.

“He dropped out early after failing to connect with the base that had already rejected his brand of politics years earlier. … President Trump himself savagely trolled Christie last December, joking that ABC fired the former governor because ‘he wanted to eat all the time.'”
