Ex-U.S. Rep. Cori Bush, D-Mo.
Cori Bush, at one point a part of the “Squad” of extreme leftists in Congress, was a member of the U.S. House until her own voters rejected her.
But she’s attempting a comeback, and suddenly her campaigning has been bogged down by unanswered questions about her fundraising following a tornado – and where the money actually went.
She’s working now to regain the seat from Missouri’s 1st congressional district, and is facing questions – even an investigation – into the financial dealings in which she’s involved.
A report at Not the Bee opens with sarcasm: “Wait, do you mean to tell me that commies steal money?”
It then explains that reporters have asked Bush about a nonprofit named Politivist Power “that funneled funds that had been collected for disaster relief into her campaign coffers.”

The report explained, “Bush’s defense is that the money was going to a PAC that supported her, and not directly into her campaign coffers. The problem? Bush had worked as an employee of the non-profit before running for Congress, and the non-profit was using her name for its fundraising emails.”
Reporter Mark Maxwell at KSDK said the fundraising appeared over the signature “Cori” and asked for money for Politivist Power.
But, the report said, “More than a year later, 5 On Your Side cannot confirm, in any public record, that Politivist Power is a legally recognized tax-exempt organization. And Bush will not say how much the tornado appeals raised, where the money went, or what her role in the group is now that she is again a candidate for Congress. Nothing at all shady here, right?”
KSDK also reported the principals declined to answer questions about how much was collected, how much was distributed to victims, whether any funds remained, and more.
Missouri Attorney General Catherine L. Hanaway has confirmed her team is “looking into this.”
Bush also was investigated, multiple times, in 2024 over her campaign’s spending on private security services, including payments made to her now-husband, Cortney Merritts.
