A social media post claiming that the Somali flag was being raised over the Columbus, Ohio, city hall in honor of its independence quickly was jerked from the web when officials were contacted, since no such ceremony was planned.

But in the meantime, the very idea raised concerns for reasons that included the foreign flag actually being flown in other locations.

It was the Plain Dealer that said the erroneous claim was from the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department.

City spokeswoman Jennifer Fening said the post mistakenly announced that City Hall would fly the Somali flag, and it was removed.

The original message noted the Somali independence day that marked the 1960 events that created the Somali Republic.

The idea drew condemnation from Republican leaders including U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno of Ohio and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, who questioned why a foreign flag would be displayed at City Hall just days before the nation’s 250th Independence Day celebration, the report explained.

But other cities did fly it. In Buffalo, Boston, Minneapolis.

Ohio state Rep. Brian Stewart, R-Ashville, and Republican congressional candidate Derek Merrin denounced the idea.

“City Hall is not a foreign embassy,” attorney and political commentator Mehek Cooke posted on X. “As an Ohioan, I am repulsed by the anti-Americanism here. Our leaders treat foreign nationalism as sacred while treating American patriotism as controversial. America’s public buildings should honor America.”

“This is AMERICA, not Little Somalia,” ACT for America founder Brigitte Gabriel posted on X. “Flying the Somali flag at City Hall isn’t ‘celebration.’ It’s cultural surrender. Other nations aren’t parallel cultures here to dominate ours. Remove that flag. Remove the officials who demand it”

“Excuse me?” Daily Wire investigative reporter Luke Rosiak, a veteran of the reporting on exploding concerns over fraud in the Somali community.

Why the f— is Columbus, Ohio celebrating ‘the unification of the Trust Territory of Somaliland…’ when America turns 250 this week?” Federalist reporter Brianna Lyman posted on X. “They all need to go back. They love their third world country so much, send them back. Denaturalize and deport.”
