The one-time rising star among Democrats who barely lost to Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2018 has been arrested on drug charges in Alabama.
Andrew Gillum, the bisexual former mayor of Tallahassee who was once caught in an “inebriated state” with another man in a Miami Beach hotel room, was taken into custody after police in Daphne, Alabama, found him allegedly driving erratically.
He was booked into the Baldwin County Jail charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a Class D felony, and possession of marijuana, second degree, a Class A misdemeanor, according to WEAR-TV.
TMZ reports: “Gillum was arrested last week on U.S. Highway 98 near Walmart Drive in Daphne, where cops say they found 3 grams of methamphetamine, 8 pre-rolled marijuana joints, 4 cut straws, 3 pipes, and a bong during the bust.”

Even though Florida is strongly Republican now, the Sunshine State could have turned out very differently as Gillum lost to DeSantis – who was endorsed for governor by President Donald Trump – by only 30,000 votes eight years ago.

“Remember 2018? When he nearly beat Ron DeSantis by just 0.4% … the closest gubernatorial race in Florida history?” asked Brigitte Gabriel, founder of ACT for America.
“From a margin that close to a federal mugshot. The margin of victory just turned into the margin of defeat. Voters dodged that one.”

Mike Crispi, a Trump delegate and chairman of America First Republicans of New Jersey, noted: “The Democrats have an amazing winning streak of nominating the biggest FREAKS for positions of power in Government.
“Before there was Graham Platner, there was Eric Swalwell. And before there was Swalwell there was crack-hoe Andrew Gillum. It’s a trend!”

As WorldNetDaily reported in 2020, Gillum, who is married with three children, went public about his sexuality, saying he identifies as bisexual.
“To be very honest with you, when you didn’t ask the question, you put it out there is whether or not I identify as gay. And the answer is I don’t identify as gay, but I do identify as bisexual, and that is something that I have never shared publicly before,” Gillum told Tamron Hall, CNN reported.
Gillum was found in March 2020 in a Mondrian South Beach Hotel room in Miami Beach with Travis Dyson, a 30-year-old who identifies himself as a “pornstar performer,” according to WPLG-TV, which cited his profile on a gay male escort website called Rent Men.

Gillum was not charged with any crime, but photos of the scene published by Britain’s Daily Mail showed baggies apparently full of methamphetamine and empty alcohol bottles.

“Everyone believes the absolute worst about that day. At this stage, I don’t have anything else to have to conceal,” Gillum said in the interview with Hall. “I literally got broken down to my most bare place, to the place where I wasn’t even sure that I wanted to live. Not because of what I had done but because of everything that was being said about me.”
“What was most hurtful was this belief that I was somehow living a lie in my marriage and in my family. That was the most hurtful to me. Because I believe we are all entitled to mistakes, and I believe we are entitled to those mistakes without having every other respectable and redeeming part of our lives invalidated,” Gillum explained, noting that “something else had been assumed” about him based on the incident.
Gillum’s announcement about being bisexual caught the attention of the late radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh.

“This is résumé enhancement, pure and simple,” Limbaugh said at the time, adding it was intended “to deflect the negative aspects of getting caught.”
