The Department of Justice is investigating California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a probable wannabe in the stakes for the 2028 Democrat presidential nomination, and his wife.

He’s pushed back, calling it political, and unjustified, and just wrong. He even went one step further, demanding under freedom of information laws, the details of the investigation.

But that’s how he got himself a further accusation of corruption, beyond the suspicious tax filings for Jennifer Siebel Newsom, and the relationships with former Newsom chief of staff Dana Williamson, who has pleaded guilty already.

Because it’s not allowed in California to use state resources for private benefit, and that’s what he’s accused of doing.

A report at the Center Square said Newsom apparently violated the state code covering public resources.

Assemblymember Carl DeMaio, R-San Diego, said Newsom used state employees and state supplies to submit his demand for information.

DeMaio filed his request via letter with the Fair Political Practices Commission and California Attorney General Rob Bonta on Tuesday, the publication said.

“We are led to believe taxpayer-funded resources may have been used as the FOIA request was sent from the office of the governor, on official letterhead, and written by the legal affairs secretary of the Office of the Governor,” DeMaio explained.

DeMaio said Newsom’s actions violate Government Code 8314.

“It is unlawful for any elected state or local officer, including any state or local appointee, employee, or consultant, to use or permit others to use public resources for a campaign activity, or personal or other purposes which are not authorized by law,” the code said.

The law defines “person purpose” as “activities the purpose of which is for personal enjoyment, private gain or advantage, or an outside endeavor not related to state business.”

A spokeswoman for Newsom said it’s just President Donald Trump attacking Newsom.

DeMaio said Newsom should be fined “because the DOJ investigation into the governor focused on personal matters rather than the Office of the Governor,” the report explained.
