'Absolutely': Watch Jasmine Crockett blame one major factor in Karmelo Anthony verdict * WorldNetDaily * by Joe Kovacs
U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, reacts to the murder conviction of Karmelo Anthony
U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, said Wednesday the stabbing murder of Austin Metcalf by Karmelo Anthony was justified, and claimed racism was “absolutely” the reason for the killer’s 35-year sentence.
“What we saw with that verdict is the evidence of a broken system,” Crockett told TMZ, referring to Tuesday’s guilty verdict for 19-year-old Anthony in the April 2025 bloody killing of Metcalf at a Texas track meet.
“Thirty-five years for a kid who had decided to go under a tent that was not his team’s tent as it was raining and simply didn’t want to be put out in the rain by some random kid that he didn’t know who was larger than him?
“Listen, a lot of people don’t know what it is to live as a black person in this country, but just like you can give the benefit of the doubt to so many police officers when they go out and they shoot some black, unarmed person even though they are trained!
“The fact that there was little to no mercy seen, or humanity seen, when this black boy said that I was scared.”

When asked specifically if Anthony’s race were a factor, Crockett said: “I know Collin County, so absolutely.”
“Unfortunately that was not the county for a black boy.”
Fox News reports: “Sources close to the trial confirmed to Fox News Digital that the jury was not made up only of white people, despite Crockett’s claim, which has been parroted by activists online.
“Of the 12 jurors, three were racial minorities, including Asian and Indian, eight were women and four were men. They confirmed that of the 18 total jurors, including alternates, six were minorities.”
Jacob Wasserman of TMZ DC asked the congresswoman: “So if this were a white boy in his exact same position, you don’t think he’d get a 35-year sentence?”
“I would guarantee you it wouldn’t have happened,” she replied. “I don’t even know if he would have been convicted because if a white boy would have said that they were afraid of a black boy, something tells me that that jury that didn’t have any black people on it, they would have believed him in his sphere.”

Bill Wirskye, the lead prosecutor for the trial told Will Cain of Fox News on Wednesday: “We were very gratified that one of the defense lawyers in their closing statements admitted to the jury this case was never about race.”
“This case was about murder, plain and simple.”

Journalist Nick Sortor reacted to Crockett’s opinions, saying: “Thank GOD this ghetto hack lost her primary in a landslide. What a freaking loser. Her next career will be ‘community organizer’ or something, racebaiting in a Texas ghetto.”
While the defense on Wednesday notified the court it would appeal the verdict, the popular crowdfunding page GiveSendGo shut down the fundraiser for Anthony after his family raised some $630,000 for legal and living expenses.

“The fundraiser was supported to support pre-trial needs, and those funds were disbursed over the last year,” a statement to the New York Post indicated. “With that stated purpose complete, the fundraiser has been closed.”
The Post reports: “But donations were still rolling after Anthony was convicted of first-degree murder – with more than $4,000 in donations made in that time.
“It remains unclear if Anthony and his family will receive that cash, as GiveSendGo typically makes fundraiser payouts three days after a donation is made.
“His family may also be able to set up a new fund if he seeks an appeal, GiveSendGo said, explaining so long as its policies are followed there would be no barrier.”
