Fighting between Israel and Hezbollah continued on Sunday, with Israel launching an attack in Beirut, Lebanon, after intercepting Hezbollah missiles in northern Israel.

Iran is now threatening retaliation against the US and Israel following the strikes in the Dahiyeh suburb of Beirut, jeopardizing negotiations over the “memorandum of understanding” (MOU) and 60-day ceasefire that Trump announced late last month.

This comes after Trump lashed out at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a heated phone call, with reports suggesting that Trump called him “f*cking crazy” for continuing the war amid US-Iran negotiations, accused Netanyahu of ingratitude, and referenced helping keep him out of jail during his corruption trial.

Iran had suspended talks with the US on Monday over Israel’s ground invasion of Lebanon before Trump made calls to Netanyahu and Hezbollah representatives. “The ceasefire between Iran and the US is unequivocally a ceasefire on all fronts, including in Lebanon,” Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said.

Trump later confirmed the reports of his phone call with Netanyahu in an interview on Tuesday. “I was a little bit perturbed at his constantly fighting with Lebanon, you know? At some point, I said, ‘Bibi we got to stop this. You’ve got to stop it,’” Trump said.

Israel went on to negotiate a ceasefire with Lebanon, but it was subsequently rejected by Hezbollah, and fighting continued into the weekend with Israel and Hezbollah trading fire. Israel launched strikes in southern Lebanon’s city of Tyre, killing seven people on Friday after Hezbollah rejected the ceasefire.

Israel Launched Strikes in Lebanon After Hezbollah Rejects Ceasefire – Trump Says “It Would be Really Nice if Lebanon Could Have Some Peace”

Now, Axios is reporting that an Israeli strike in Lebanon's Capital of Beirut killed at least two people and injured a dozen more. Netanyahu says the strike was in response to Hezbollah missiles launched at Israel earlier in the day.

The IDF released video from the strikes, saying the target was a "headquarters where terrorists from the Hezbollah terror organization were operating in Dahiyeh."

Per Axios:

Israel struck Beirut's southern suburbs Sunday in retaliation to a Hezbollah missile attack on northern Israel, Israeli officials said.

Why it matters: Iran threatened last week to launch a missile attack against Israel if it attacks Beirut. Such a move could unravel U.S.–Iran negotiations and reignite the war.

  • Israel notified the Trump administration before the strike, a U.S. official and two other sources with knowledge tell Axios.
  • Driving the news: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the strike answered Hezbollah missiles fired at northern Israel earlier Sunday, which the Israeli military says it intercepted.

In response, Iranian parliament national security committee member Ebrahim Rezaei threatened that Iran "will give a decisive and painful response to the Zionist regime's attack on Dahiyeh."

"These rabid dogs must be disciplined and put back in their place. Look at the sky over the occupied lands tonight," he said.

Iranian speaker of parliament and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher also responded to the attack, threatening to target American bases in the region.

"They are neither committed to a ceasefire nor believe in dialogue, and by demonstrating through the naval blockade and violation of agreements regarding Lebanon that they only understand the language of power," he said in a statement on X. "The naval blockade against the Iranian nation and America's green light today to the Zionist regime turn American and regime bases and assets in the region into legitimate targets. The hand of our armed forces is open, as always."

    This is a developing story.
