A former Emirates Airlines employee explained how shorts can quickly turn dangerous in an emergency situation.

If a plane is forced to land and passengers have to use a slide to deboard, it’s important to have protection from the friction, he explained in a TikTok.

The speed combined with the material of the slide can be so powerful that flyers could have their skin ripped right off.

“This was the best word of advice is that, especially in an emergency when you’re trying to get out quick, this stuff [on the slide] is designed to get you down as fast as possible, and it burns,” said Drake, the former employee.

“Like to the point where, if you’re sliding down, you are supposed to keep your hands on top of your thighs because if you try to use your hands on the slide, your hands will get burned and your skin could get burned off,” he explained.

“Obviously, no one wants to get into an emergency, but this could save you a lot of pain.”

Shorts are among a list of clothing items passengers should think twice about before wearing to the airport.

A pilot’s wife named Laurie also warned travelers about how a flowy dress could bug out the X-rays and hold you up at screening checkpoints.

“The pocket of air a flowy dress makes COULD cause a dense area to show up that the machine cannot see through,” she said.

“A flowy dress – in my opinion – should be packed.”

Tight, sweaty clothing could also trigger alarms at security.

A TSA spokesperson explained that extra moisture can add density, which can be flagged on the full-body scanner.

“Added moisture from a person’s body can alter the density of clothing, so it is possible perspiration may cause our Advanced Imaging Technology machines to alarm,” the spokesperson told CNN.

“If this occurs, the passenger may need to undergo additional screening, such as a pat-down in the area of the body where the AIT alarmed, to ensure there is no threat.”

To avoid sweating, shower before going to the airport and avoid tight fabrics.

Instead, opt for light and breathable fabrics like cotton for underwear and outerwear.

What should you wear on a flight?

HEALTH experts have warned travelers against wearing tight pants like jeans or leggings on a flight.

The pants can hinder circulation at elevation, and increase risk of blood clots pooling in the lower legs.

Plus, leggings could be a safety risk on the off chance that a flier gets caught in an aviation accident.

Instead, fliers are urged to wear medical-grade compression stockings, which counter the effects of a decompressed cabin, Dr. Peter J. Pappas, a vascular surgeon with the Center for Vein Restoration, said.

Compression socks and leggings have gentle pressure that encourages blood flow and prevents pooling in the extremities.
