DONALD Trump has launched a fresh wave of strikes on Iran, Washington officials say, as Tehran reportedly targets a US Navy base in response.

It comes after the US president backed down on yesterday’s pledge to impose a 20 per cent toll on vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

On Monday, Trump promised to restart the US blockade in the Strait of Hormuz and charge a 20 per cent cargo toll on passing ships.

He has since gone back on the 20 per cent fee plans, which were originally announced in a Truth Social post.

But the US president has not reversed his decision to impose the blockade once again – and confirmed his armada will arrive in the key waterway tonight, 9pm UK time.

Over last night, both sides exchanged fire, with Tehran reportedly targeting American bases in Jordan and Bahrain.

Washington’s latest strikes mean the US has attacked Iran for three nights running.

It comes after Iran killed a sailor in “brazen” missile attacks on two tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian missiles hit two tankers travelling through Omani waters in the strait’s southern passage.

One crew member was killed and several more were injured by what the UAE branded a “brazen attack” in breach of international law.

The US blitzed key naval bases in a fresh wave of strikes overnight – as the peace deal signed last month lies in tatters.
