Dead duck found floating in Trump’s new Reflecting Pool – days after bleach dumped into water following $14m revamp
A DEAD duckling has been found floating in Donald Trump’s troubled new Reflecting Pool – just days after workers dumped bleach-like chemicals into the water following its $14million revamp.
The cause of the bird’s death has not been confirmed and there is no evidence linking it to the ongoing repair works or chemical treatment.

But the grim discovery is the latest headache for the President’s controversial makeover of the famous Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which has already been hit by algae outbreaks, peeling sealant and claims of vandalism.
Pictures posted on X by political journalist Rob Crilly showed the duckling floating in murky green water on Sunday.
Crilly said an expert told him the pool “could have signs of cyanobacteria” -a type of blue-green algae that can become toxic to animals when it rapidly spreads.
But it is still not known what killed the duckling.

The sad discovery comes just days after workers were photographed pouring large bottles of hydrogen peroxide into the pool in a bid to tackle the growing algae problem, TMZ reported.
Hydrogen peroxide is generally considered safer than chlorine bleach because it breaks down in water – but high concentrations can pose a risk to ducks and other birds.
Trump ordered the renovation ahead of this year’s 250th Independence Day celebrations and personally selected an “American flag blue” coating for the basin.
But within days of the project being completed on June 6, the blue finish had been swallowed up by slimy green algae and parts of the new liner started peeling away.

Workers have since been seen physically scraping algae from the pool while officials have also deployed “nanobubble ozone technology” in an attempt to clean up the water.
The chaos has sparked a furious response from Trump, who has repeatedly blamed vandals for the problems.
The President claimed, without providing evidence, that “terrible vandals” used “some form of knife or blade” to create a “250 foot long gash” in the pool’s surface and poured “corrosive and destructive chemicals” into the water.
On Sunday he announced fresh repairs after inspecting the site.
“I just inspected it, and could only say to myself, and those gathered around me, WOW, who would do such a thing? SICK, DERANGED PEOPLE!” Trump wrote on social media.
A shocking aerial photo also revealed how the pool has turned such a vivid shade of green that it almost disappears into the surrounding landscape when viewed from above.
The long rectangular basin appeared as a bright lime-green strip, blending almost perfectly into the nearby lawns and tree canopies around it.
From the sky, the iconic landmark looks less like a body of water and more like a giant patch of grass.
