The backlash has resurfaced over Amazon’s abridged version of It’s a Wonderful Life. Viewers say a crucial scene was removed, stripping the 1946 classic of its heart and leaving first-time watchers totally confused.

Fans of the iconic film, which follows the life of banker George Bailey, say Amazon cut what many consider the entire point of the movie. The outrage centers on the missing “Pottersville scene,” where George wishes he had never been born and is shown how much worse the world would be without him.

George tells his guardian angel Clarence that he feels better off dead than alive. Clarence then walks him through an alternate version of his town, one shaped by George’s absence showing how different and darker life would have been without his good deeds.

The experience ultimately helps George realize he really does have a wonderful life.

Viewers say Amazon’s version skips over much of that emotional buildup. Instead of seeing how George’s perspective changes, fans claim the film jumps ahead abruptly after Clarence tells him he must earn his wings, cutting straight to George joyfully running through the streets with little explanation of what led to his sudden change of heart.

Without that pivotal moment, furious viewers say the movie loses its emotional payoff.

“What an ABOMINATION.The whole point of the story was for George to witness life without him in it. Completely axing this part of the plot renders this movie pointless.”  said @duval_jay

Others warned the edited version fails to capture the film’s message especially for those seeing it for the first time.

“Are they insane?” one user fumed.

“This sequence encapsulates the point of the entire film! How one man’s life and good deeds affect many others, and why the world is worse off without him.” said @kazuki_fans_us.

“There is an ABRIDGED version of It’s A Wonderful Life that slices the guts out of the movie.  It actually makes no sense.   The “commie parts” are all cut out.   It’s so that children won’t get any ideas. Said @JSherredAdams

One fan even joked that the edit deserved serious consequences.

“I don’t know who, but someone needs to go to jail for the ABRIDGED Version of “It’s a Wonderful Life,” wrote @MavPilgrim.

Despite the ongoing backlash, Amazon has not publicly addressed why the scene was removed leaving fans wondering why a Christmas classic was altered in the first place.
