Senate Democrats grill Maine candidate Platner over numerous scandals

Some Senate Democrats had a private meeting with Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner, asking if any additional allegations could emerge and threaten his campaign.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren attended the meeting, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing unnamed sources.
Sanders asked if more allegations could potentially arise during Platner’s bid for Senate, and Warren said there’s a difference between extramarital affairs and sexual assault.
Platner said that no credible allegations of assault are forthcoming. He told the senators that he’s had a “messy, complicated life,” but the worst allegations against him aren’t true.
Platner is trying to unseat long-time GOP Sen. Susan Collins, and he’s been embroiled in a series of scandals, including allegations of sexually explicit comments on Reddit. Reports also emerged that his wife had informed campaign aides about sexually explicit text messages he exchanged with several women earlier in their marriage.
