Rep. Pete Sessions: Wait for Vance Briefing on Iran Deal

Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Texas, told Newsmax on Sunday that lawmakers and the public should refrain from deciding whether they support the Trump administration’s memorandum of understanding with Iran until negotiators, including Vice President JD Vance, provide a detailed explanation of the agreement.
Sessions said on “Wake Up America Weekend” that members of Congress need an opportunity to question administration officials directly about the negotiations and the expectations behind the framework agreement signed Wednesday.
“For me to simply take the MOU and say, ‘Well, I’m for it or against it,’ I think misses the point,” Sessions said. “The negotiation is the key to this.”
Sessions said he expects Vance, who has led negotiations for the administration, to meet with House and Senate Republicans and answer questions about the talks.
“Vice President JD Vance will come to our conference. He will go on the Senate side. He will be in closed doors. He will be asked direct questions, and it’s important that he answer these questions,” Sessions said.
Although public debate over the memorandum has intensified, Sessions argued that lawmakers should wait until negotiators explain not only what Iranian officials sought during the talks but also what the United States expects to achieve.
“When the negotiators come and actually sit down and walk through these things, not just the thinking of what the Iranians said, but what our expectations are, it will become clearer,” he said.
