House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., told Newsmax on Wednesday that strong Republican voter enthusiasm, fueled by President Donald Trump’s agenda, gives the GOP confidence it can defy historical midterm trends and hold its House majority this fall.

Appearing on “American Agenda,” Emmer pointed to a recent HarrisX survey that he said showed unusually high enthusiasm among Republican voters months before Election Day.

“Usually, you have an enthusiasm gap right now, and it doesn’t close until sometime in September, October,” Emmer said.

“The MAGA Republicans, eight to nine out of 10 of them are planning on voting in the midterms,” he said.

Emmer argued the finding undercuts a longstanding political assumption.

“Those … are the MAGA Republicans, the Trump voters that we’ve been told for two years aren’t going to show up without President Trump on the ballot,” he said.

He added that broader Republican turnout also appears robust.

“You look at Republicans and Democrats and seven to eight, eight out of 10 of each are planning on voting already here in July,” Emmer said. “There is a ton of enthusiasm out there.”
