Maine Democrats nominated Troy Jackson to be the candidate for US Senate to take on Sen. Susan Collins.

Jackson received 566 votes. Saundra Pelletier received five votes.

“So outside of my family, my immediate family, cause all of you are my family, outside of them, this is the absolute honor of my life to accept the Democratic nomination for the US Senate,” Jackson said during his victory speech.

Jackson was nominated during a convention held at the Bangor Cross Insurance Center Saturday morning. He is replacing Democrat Graham Platner, who dropped out of the race earlier this month following allegations of sexual assault.

601 delegates from all 16 counties voted at the nominating convention. 500 delegates were appointed last weekend at county meetings. The other 101 were members of the Democratic State Committee.

13 people initially entered the race to become the new democratic Senate nominee, but only two remained going into the convention.
