'In-flight outbursts' up 400% on commercial flights since 2019
The Transportation Department (DOT) is looking to crack down on “unruly” behavior and “in-flight outbursts” with its new civility campaign.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced the launch of the campaign “The Golden Age of Travel Starts with You” on Thursday.
“It’s not your imagination. Traveling has become more uncivilized,” Duffy wrote on social platform X. “It’s time to bring back civility and manners when we travel.”
According to the department, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has seen a 400 percent increase in in-flight outbursts ranging from disruptive to violent since 2019. With 13,800 unruly passenger incidents reported since 2021 and 1 in 5 flight attendants having experienced physical incidents that year, Duffy says change is needed.
