US military is conducting fresh strikes on Iran
The U.S. on Wednesday launched another wave of strikes on Iran in the wake of the ceasefire’s collapse, marking the second night of American bombardment after months of a nominal ceasefire.
“At the direction of the Commander in Chief, U.S. Central Command forces have started conducting additional strikes against Iran to further degrade their ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” U.S. Central Command said in a statement.
“The United States is holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews freely navigating a vital international waterway,” it continued.
The strikes followed a breakdown in negotiations between the U.S. and Iran, which coincided with intermittent flare ups in the conflict across all fronts.
President Donald Trump on Wednesday confirmed that he considered the creasefire that the U.S. and Iran signed to be over.
