Army identifies soldier who died during training exercise in Iraq

Texas Sergeant Devin Seibel dies in training exercise in Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve

The US Army on Wednesday identifed a soldier that died during a training-related accident while at Erbil Air Base in Iraq. The active-duty soldier was serving in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, the military intervention against ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
The War Department said in a press release, “Sergeant Devin A. Seibel, 26, of Robinson, Texas, died on May 31, 2026, in Erbil Airbase, Iraq, during a training-related incident. The Soldier was assigned to the Air Ambulance Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, Fort Carson, Colo. The incident is under investigation.”
Mayor Yemi Mobolade of Colorado Springs, just miles away from Fort Carson, wrote his condolences on X.
“Our Colorado Springs community joins the family, loved ones, and fellow soldiers of Sergeant Devin A. Seibel in mourning this heartbreaking loss. Sgt. Seibel died during a training exercise on Sunday in Iraq. Sgt. Seibel answered the call to serve our nation with courage, dedication, and selflessness. We are deeply grateful for his service and sacrifice,” Mobolade said.
