The Utah Supreme Court has cleared the way for the Charlie Kirk murder case to move forward.

On Thursday, the court denied Tyler Robinson’s request to appeal rulings allowing cameras in the courtroom and certain hearsay evidence.

Fourth District Judge Tony Graf Jr. ruled that cameras would remain in the courtroom under strict rules, while recorded testimony from a key witness would be allowed during the preliminary hearing.

“The petition for permission to appeal from an interlocutory order is denied. The motion to stay is deemed moot,” the order stated.

Robinson is accused of assassinating political activist Charlie Kirk during a public speaking event in September of last year at Utah Valley University (UVU).

He faces a potential death sentence if convicted.

Robinson’s preliminary hearing is set to begin on Monday. Kirk’s parents and his widow, Erika Kirk, are reportedly expected to attend. The hearing will mark the first major court proceeding the family is expected to be at.

Erika has been very vocal about wanting a swift resolution. In January 2026, she invoked Utah’s crime victims’ rights statute by submitting a formal court filing to demand a speedy trial and a prompt resolution to the case against Robinson.

Additionally, she is strongly in favor of allowing cameras in the courtroom to publicly livestream the legal proceedings, stating the full transparency in the case is vital.
