(NewsNation) — The Arizona sheriff whose department is investigating the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie has spoken out after a new letter claimed to have evidence on two suspects.

TMZ reported that a person emailed the outlet saying they have a phone with video of the “main” suspect in the case, along with pictures, names and addresses of two people involved and a Bitcoin address.

It is one of several emails the media outlet has received that purport to have information on who is behind the abduction of 84-year-old Guthrie, with the writer offering to send the information in exchange for money.

TMZ said it forwarded the note to the FBI, as it has done with previous notes.

Sheriff Nanos questions credibility of latest email

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said on an Arizona radio station Friday he didn’t believe the email is legitimate.

He referenced other ransom notes that have been sent in the case, some of which have been deemed to be fake. It was recently revealed that one early ransom note said that Guthrie was “buried in nature” and expressed remorse for her death.

Nanos praised those who have shared genuine tips with investigators but noted that the downside of widespread attention on the case is that people send in false information or fake ransom notes, tying up investigators.

US Cajun Navy still wants to help find Guthrie: VP

United States Cajun Navy vice president Brian Trascher believes his team can still assist in the investigation despite Nanos’ refusal for help.

“What we could bring to the table mostly surrounded our ability to deploy canine teams and drone teams to the area,” Trascher told “Katie Pavlich Tonight.”

Trascher added he feels there’s a strong possibility Guthrie could have ended up somewhere along the border.

“There’s a lot of human remains that get found down there,” he noted. “A lot of people who are familiar with that area and are good at searching. “Just to be a force multiplier, extra set of eyes, ears and hands and feet at this point, just to try to bring some closure to the Guthrie family.”

What happened to Nancy Guthrie?

Authorities believe the mother of TV anchor Savannah Guthrie was abducted from her Arizona home in the early hours of Feb. 1, 2026.

Nearly five months later, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or shared any indication of where they believe Guthrie may have been taken.
