(NewsNation) — The family accused of keeping 16 children in what authorities have called an Ohio “House of Horrors” reportedly previously lived in another home where the conditions were similarly disturbing.

Records obtained by WSYX-TV show the Siders family lived in neighboring Gallia County from 2020 to 2024 before moving to Vinton County, where investigators say the children spent years confined to a small area inside the home.

A neighbor in Gallia County said she rarely saw the children during the family’s time there.

“We did not know they had even left for quite a while,” Melissa Edmonds, who lived next to the Siders’ Gallia County home, told WSYX. She said her nephew briefly interacted with some of the children several years ago, but the family largely kept to themselves.

Court records show six of the children were enrolled at Addaville Elementary School but stopped attending during the 2021-22 school year, according to WSYX. Truancy cases were eventually dismissed after officials were unable to locate the family or serve court paperwork.

It’s unclear exactly when the family moved to Vinton County, but investigators say the children spent most of the past four years confined to a 12-by-12-foot room inside the Hamden home.

The Gallia County property was sold earlier this year, and the home’s new owner said the conditions inside were shocking.

Bruce Gullick, who is renovating the property, said he found children’s clothing stuffed in the attic, suggesting someone may have been living there.

“The whole entire house was just urine, human and pet feces, so it was pretty rough,” Gullick told WSYX.

The discovery has prompted questions about whether the neglect investigators uncovered in Vinton County may have begun years earlier at the family’s previous home.
